Artist & Dream
Dune 2 Production Designer Patrice Vermette x Bixlers have come together to create a unique jewelry piece celebrating Patrice’s Academy Award nomination for Dune 2 that thematically embodies the film’s powerful message of multiculturalism, legacy, and ecological consciousness. When Dune 2 earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Production Design for Patrice, what began as a passion project evolved into a one-of-a-kind luxury creation destined for the Oscars’ red carpet. The team had only six months for research and development and three months for manufacturing to bring a dream into reality.
“Bixlers approach to the art of fine jewelry is unmatched. I could not be more proud of these pieces.”- Patrice Vermette / Dune Production Designer
Clockwork Obscura
Drawing from Bixlers’ centuries-old tradition of fine timepiece making, the set was crafted with architectural precision and assembled by hand from nearly three dozen parts. With a 35mm diameter and 42-gram weight, there was little room for error. Rare black and white diamonds required precise hand-setting in platinum cradles. The sand vista was made by melting and shaping platinum into a grainy texture. A custom 18K gold pin and catch mechanism on the back rotates on an axis for secure docking.Like all Bixlers pieces, the Epic Sands set was handcrafted exclusively in North America at Bixlers’ certified sustainable atelier with 99% renewable energy, 100% repurposed precious metals, and a team of experts hailing from 29 cultures around the globe.
Shadow & LightBixlers recruited Armenian-born artist Gayané Avetisyan to apply the final flourishes. Gayané is a practitioner of cloisonné enameling, an ancient technique for decorating metalwork using superheated glass and delicate strands of gold. The delicate interplay of textures and light on such a small canvas brought all facets of Gayané’s considerable skill to bear in an exciting challenge.
Flora & Fauna
Depicted on a diameter of just over 20mm is the iconic sandworm featured on the face of the cufflinks. Each stalk in the maw of the creature was polished using wooden tools. As the eye is drawn deeper into the maw, the polishing work evolves, culminating in a matte-like finish created entirely by hand.
“The decision to use glass enamel was essential, as it is derived from desert sand. The skilled artisans at Bixlers jewelry house have beautifully captured the essence of Patrice’s creative vision”- Gayané Avetisyan
The Epic Sands Custom Brooch and Cufflinks will be unveiled to the world during the 97th Academy Awards ceremony, airing on March 2, 2025, at 7:00 PM ET.Don’t miss Patrice Vermette and this extraordinary jewelry set hit the red carpet!
